About
Posted on December 12, 2011My name is Ron Webb. I, like many people have opinions on a variety of topics. I am fairly mainstream in many of my opinions, but do show my biases from time to time.
Politically, I’m fairly conservative; generally favoring conservative party members and movements, but not completely.
I am also a Christian and believe that my belief is MY belief and I am not going to force that belief on anyone else. I’d like to share my belief with others and if they would like to be like me, maybe they too will follow my beliefs, but it is not my job to convince you to believe the same as me. I feel that religion and politics need to remain separate. I support allowing anyone to practice their religion in the way they see fit, provided no harm is brought to others and the respect of others is followed. If someone at a public meeting wishes to pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I will think of them as a disrespectful idiot, but I understand that I must be tolerant of others’ beliefs (or lack thereof). If someone wishes to present a human sacrifice at a public meeting, that ought to be stopped, as it brings harm to others.
When it comes to matters of life and when it begins and ends, I understand that it gets heavily into a “grey” area. Opinions in this area vary drastically from religion to religion and culture to culture. This is where I see a large amount of the conflict in regard to the “separation of church and state.” I do not like the legislation of when life begins and ends because it varies so much. I know that I would not want to live if living meant being in a persistant vegitative state. While I think it would be wrong for someone to come in with a gun and blow my head off in that state, withholding life sustaining measures would be what I would want. Your opinion may be different, we’ll let you live that way. I also personally am appalled by someone aborting an unborn child… unless there are significant extenuating circumstances. For the government to NOT allow for such extenuating circumstances is wrong, in my humble opinion, as it chooses the religious opinions of one group over another.
OK… that got a little too deep and opinionated. As I stated, most of my opinions are not that drastic, but I’d love to read dialog from others with either similar or differing opinions. I’m not here to change other opinions, but rather determine how alike and dissimilar I am to anyone else out there reading my stuff.
